Zinc - what does it do?

Zinc is a trace mineral, meaning that the body only needs small amounts, and yet it is necessary for almost 100 enzymes to carry out vital chemical reactions.

Zinc is important for a variety of reasons. It supports the following:

  • our immune system

  • our bodies to make proteins and DNA (the genetic material in all cells)

  • wound healing

  • our senses of taste and smell

  • growth and development during pregnancy, as a baby and as a child.

The amount of zinc you need each day depends on your age.
